SKY helps children and youth that have experienced abuse and neglect receive the best possible response from service providers.
The SKY Coordinated Response is a “made in the West Kootenay” rural adaptation of a Child & Youth Advocacy Centre model. It was created through collaboration between police, child protection, crown counsel, victim services, schools, healthcare, and community services to provide a more seamless response to child and youth abuse, helping reduce system-induced trauma.
Meet Trusty
Trusty is our Accredited Facility Support Dog. He’s been specially trained to support children and youth that come forward with their experience of abuse when they are meeting with professionals. Trusty provides support in interviews, courtrooms, counselling sessions, and casual settings like the park. Support dogs like Trusty are proven to have a positive impact on victims of abuse.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. Sexual Assault can be violent or non-violent; it is when physical or sexual activity is engaged without the enthusiastic consent of the other person. SKY works to support child and youth victims of sexual assault, and sexual violence. Teaching consent is a pivotal factor in education around sexual assault and sexual violence.
